    Do not underestimate the power of finding a commun Do not underestimate the power of finding a community. As special needs parents we need it and there's science that proves it. Caring for a special needs child literally takes years off your life due to the amount of stress you experience. Support from and you providing support helps!

    You will get through this. And you will be better You will get through this. And you will be better and stronger than you were before. Every trial has a purpose.

    Ignoring the early signs of burnout  can lead to Ignoring the early signs of burnout  can lead to serious consequences for both you and the people you care for & about. Knowing the early signs of burnout can help you know when you need to take a step back and prioritize your mental health.

    My son has been diagnosed with severe autism, ADHD My son has been diagnosed with severe autism, ADHD and developmental delay. We waited almost a year to get our first diagnosis on recommendation from his psychologist, but we knew something was wrong after he turned 1yr old and his regression started. I was devastated, my sweet boy I envisioned was snatched by a diagnosis we never saw coming. In the years to follow I scoured the internet and every resource I could find for ways to get rid of his autism, but the more I searched, the more grief set in. There had to be something I could do...this is my son that I'm fighting for! I had to find a way to give him the life I knew he deserved. And that was the problem. I was blinded by what 'I' wanted. I had made it all about ME. As parents we only want the best for our children. We would lay down our lives for them in a heartbeat. And that's OK, it's our job to protect them, but the moment I realized it's not about me, that's when acceptance began. When we go through difficult situations the first question we ask is "why is this happening to me?!" It then causes us to fall into self pity, fear and the sense that we've lost control. We can't always control what happens in our lives but we can control how we respond. I didn't find a cure for any of his diagnoses, but my son continues to thrive. He loves math, is reading and is considered the most advanced in his class academically. He's funny, loves the outdoors and creative. Although his diagnoses made life harder, it also made us stronger!
